Neil Gaiman To Direct His DEATH

Death

A while back it was announced that Guillermo Del Toro (Hellboy) would produce the long in development film of Neil Gaiman’s Death: The High Cost Of Living. Del Toro would produce and (yippee!) Gaiman would direct.

Another step forward has been made.

Shia LaBeouf has been cast as the male lead Sexton. This is a much better role for the recently hot actor than the “son?” of Indiana Jones.

No word on who will play Death/Didi. Production could begin as early as late fall or early winter in the UK.

This is very exciting! As a fan of the Sandman comics, I’ve been drooling for a film adaptation of Gaiman’s masterwork. Drooling, but full well knowing the challenges in adapting the material. If anyone can do it, though, Neil can!

For those who don’t know, Death tells the story of Didi, a peppy goth girl who maintains she is the Earthly manifestation of Death. One day every century, Death walks the world so she can better understand those she will one day lead off. One of the people she meets is Sexton who learns more than he bargained for from the encounter.

The first issue of Death: The High Cost Of Living is available in PDF form. I do suggest you read this fine graphic novella.
